☺ Casa Maina is a hidden gem about 20 minutes from the Huatulco airport in the tiny community of Salchi. Beautifully appointed suites with kitchen facilities and lovely big balcony with a spectacular view of the ocean. Wonderful hosts and great staff. Would go back in a heartbeat!
☹ We actually kind of liked that it was off the beaten track but you should be aware that a car is needed if you want to buy groceries or explore beyond the hotel.

☺ The breakfast was amazing. I am not vegan but my partner is and I and the other guests at the time of stay absolutely loved the breakfast and the options. By the end when I wanted to get fish and the other places in the area were closed I was secretly happy as the food at Casa Mauna is deeeellicious. Summer rolls were favourite but all the mains and breakfast options are amazing and made with so much care. Our romantic dinner was delicious and very sweet. The vegan baileys??? Amazing. We were also very excited to see so many birds and butterflies (we are from London lol) and the hummingbirds coming to plants during breakfast was a highlight 😀

☹ I think you probably could do with a car to avoid issues and cost getting around and if you wanted to go to Huatulco as it is isolated. The pool is lovely but if you want to swim in the sea it is too choppy and getting to the other beaches on foot is possible but hot work especially if you need to carry supplies (umbrella, cool box etc) however we did not need to go anywhere as the suites and pool and beach were enough for 4 days. Longer and you may consider alternatives.

Tranquility with friendly staff and the comforts of home.
☺ Enjoyed being in a tranquil setting and having all required amenities at the hotel. The suite had a kitchen and small fridge which we utilized daily. The beach was a 5 min walk and the hotel provides towels and an umbrella to take with you. We had the beach to ourselves which was a major bonus.
We very much enjoyed their fruit smoothies to start the day and a cocktail to end the day.
☹ This is being picky as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mauna. The variety of lunch and dinner food offerings could be better. The flavours started to taste the same in many of the dishes. Other local restaurants were closed during our visit. We didn’t buy enough groceries for our stay which was a lesson learned on our part.
Make sure you bring extra pesos to account for taxis and eating at other restaurants.

Don’t miss an opportunity to stay at this beautiful, full service boutique hotel situated just above Playa Salchi on the Oaxacan coast! Ewan, the owner, and his staff are fabulous—attending to our every need. The units are well appointed with everything: the kitchen had a cooktop, fridge, purified water. There’s a huge bathroom, nice living room, and a private terraza with a hammock, dining area and a killer view. The restaurant has some amazing vegan/vegetarian choices, situated right by the pool. The bar offers some really good drinks and a great selection of mezcal and beer. There is staff here full time, which is wonderful. The beach is only a five minute walk away, and very private. No vendors! 5 stars for the whole experience!

We had dinner twice at the restaurant during our 6 day stay in Salchi. The food was really great, fresh and inventive. The 2nd dinner was for my husband birthday and the team was able to bake an incredible chocolate birthday cake to help us celebrate in style! It was one of the best chocolate cake we had. Thank you again for the attention and we hope to be back soon.

It’s such a magical little place, service is amazing, food is great, and rooms are nice and clean.
My wife and I spent 7 nights here and didn’t want to leave, walking access to a beach.
The restaurant is so good, the food is all fresh and always prepared when ordered, never reheated or frozen. We’re both vegan and were so happy to find this place, typically we always get a little sick in Mexico from the food, but not on this trip!
Service is great from the owners and workers are so kind.
I highly recommend this place.
The only downside is the mosquitos but that’s all of Oaxaca and there’s not much you can do except spray yourself.

We loved our stay at Casa Mauna. Even before we arrived, we had contact with the owner, who helped us organise transportation from Puerto Escondido. Giovanni, the cab driver, also helped us buy bus tickets and brought us back to zipolite after our stay.
The apartment was spacious, well equipped, nicely designed, and had the most amazing view.
The food was beyond our expectations as we are not vegan and the staff were very friendly.
It was also super nice to meet the owner and have a chat about how Casa Mauna was built. He was very helpful and answered all our questions about transportation and the best ways to travel etc.

Peaceful beauty on the beach! If you enjoy listening to the waves, relaxing and eating Vegan food, this is the place. Delicious food and friendly service. Super clean boutique hotel. Bring your tennis shoes and supportive sandals. Many steps to climb. 76 from beach to our 3 floor unit- closest to the beach- good exercise- but I always use caution. As I write this -one of the hotel cats is purring on my lap. Beautiful birds, iguanas and flowers to see. Best of all is the warm, secluded and clean beach. I would rather be here than Hawaii for pure relaxation- which was what I needed. Did jog into the small town- but other than that- only had rest and relaxation here. Recommend flying into Huatulco airport and getting snacks at a grocery store there. We had such delicious meals here with excellent service. So grateful to have found this gem. Hope to return annually.❤️☮️🌊🐈⬛🌸🇲🇽

Take me back to Paradise!
We returned to a cold, grey, wet UK a week ago after a wonderful week of winter sun at Casa Mauna. My husband and our two children all loved our week at Casa Mauna, Salchi. Our suite on the second floor enjoyed fabulous views over the bay. The accommodation was modern and clean. The hammock on our terrace was a highlight as was the big comfortable bed. We all enjoyed swimming in the lovely infinity pool. For me, as a vegan, eating at Casa Mauna’s restaurant every day was paradise and I relished the chance to sample so many different options, both Mexican and international. The food was all fresh and delicious. A lot of effort has clearly gone into creating a peaceful and beautiful ambience, in tune with nature. The New Years’ Eve meal served on our terrace was particularly special. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and in particular, the owner Ewen consistently went out of his way to ensure that we were having the best possible stay. He organised a fantastic private boat trip for us, on which an experienced local guide showed us jumping manta rays and turtles and we were able to see beautiful fish while snorkelling in a bay accessible only by water. The local area is lovely - unspoilt and not crowded. We enjoyed observing the wildlife - butterflies, lizards and iguanas - and taking walks on beautiful beaches that we had almost to ourselves. A very special and memorable week! Oh, and the cocktails were amazing too.😉

La ubicación de Casa Mauna es perfecta si te quieres desconectar y disfrutar de la costa de Oaxaca. Las vistas desde el hotel son hermosas, la alberca está excelente para relajarse y la comida es muy buena. Ofrecen sombrillas y toallas para llevar a la playa para poder pasar el rato allá. Beautiful place and people
Juan and his Hotel staff are just the type of people you want to be around. They are welcoming, genuine and delicate. The Hotel has just what you need for a perfect 5-day stay. Rooms are funcional and decorated with style. The Beach is literally a few minutes walking and is breathtaking. The Restaurant is fully plant-based with an increíble taste and variety. Fully recommend for those able to appreciate the tranquility and unspoiledness of this beautiful piece of our Mexican coast.

WARNING! Do NOT stay here unless you have extra time in your schedule. You won’t want to leave. The rooms are beautifully appointed and clean. The views are great from the pool and every room. The beds are comfortable. Wi-Fi is strong, water is hot, water pressure is strong, AC is cold. But most of all the staff were friendly, eager to serve and polite. The full service on-site bar makes amazing smoothies and cocktails. The restaurant is vegan. But don’t let that scare you! I’m not vegan myself, but when it’s prepared as thoughtfully as it is at Casa Mauna, I don’t mind. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are just spectacular in this oasis in the jungle. The road there is a bit washed out and I paved for several kilometers. But don’t let that deter you. Ewen, his wife and caring staff have made this boutique, full service hotel a very special spot to visit in an unexpected location. You won’t want to leave.

We visited Casa Mauna twice during a recent stay on the Oaxaca coast. This place is truly amazing. It's designed with such attention to detail...modern yet embracing the gorgeous surroundings. nos encantó mucho casa mauna el mejor lugar para irte de luna de miel o placer muy tranquilo solo escuchas el sonido de las olas y los pájaros las habitaciones muy bonitas el servicio excelente nosotros no somos veganos y apezar de eso la comida muy rica y las bebidas muy refrescantes, el lugar está lejos de la ciudad q si quieres algo tranquilo y desconectarte está es tu mejor opción 100%recomendado jaffet el chico de la barra excelente servicio igual el de todos que nos atendieron q no recuerdo sus nombres pero execelent trabajo y servicio esperemamos regresar pronto gracias a todo el staff por sus atenciones.

Ewen and Victoria take care of everything and the customer svc is outstanding, helping with tests for travel and taxis to town. Food is amazing, not a vegan, yet the samosas and burger and everything was great !!! Plus they stock the best Artesenal "Coyote" Mezcal with dark Noche Buena beer beach life doesnt get any more simple, slow and stress free !! we will be back in March . . mucho gracias Ewen

Casa Mauna is a great place to stay in Salchi! The hotel is very clean, the pool has a great view and it is located a very short walk from the beach. The restaurant / bar are good, the staff great. I enjoyed my stay and every meal! As a non-vegan I didn’t miss anything and recommend it to everybody, as it will open your opinion on vegan food.

Relaxing stay.
Very relaxing place to get away from it all with the beach literally 2minute walk down the hill. The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly even though our Spanish is questionable. The food at the restaurant was very tasty. I would stay at this slice of Mexican paradise again.

This little cove is a true gem! Beautiful and quiet. The room was lovely, I spent hours on the hammock, the bed was very comfortable, and the rain shower lovely after a day at the beach. It is a quiet area - days are filled with long walks (to neighboring beaches), lounging on
the beach, and sunsets at the pool. The restaurant is great- fresh with good variety. Highly recommend if your looking for a peaceful spot for a few days!
